The First Minister’s Slanj Outfit Explained

Humza Yousaf Spirit of Glasgow Slanj Kilt Outfit

Everyone seemed to love Humza Yousaf’s outfit for the coronation, but what exactly did he wear?

Slanj have a rich history of providing kilt outfits for celebrities, so when the First Minister needed something to wear for the Coronation, we were the obvious choice.

Humza Yousaf loved the Spirit of Glasgow tartan kilt straight away and so the outfit was made around the tartan including a specially made jacket designed by Asian clothing specialists Anjali’s Boutique. The dark blue jacket has intricate embroidery on the lapel and the buttons to represent Humza’s Pakistani heritage making it a unique piece.

The Spirit of Glasgow tartan combines tones of light lilac, heather purple, soft navy blue with accents of brown which mirror a warm evening welcome on the Clyde. The same cloth was incorporated into an outfit for Humza’s wife Nadia by Scottish designer Siobhan Mackenzie. Siobhan’s previous designs include the Team Scotland outfits for the Commonwealth Games.

So, what doers the outfit consist of? Here’s a wee run-down…

  • Spirit of Glasgow Tartan Kilt - A beautifully hand-sewn kilt by our on-site kilt-maker using our exclusive Spirit of Glasgow tartan. The tartan can match well with several of our jackets and is pleasingly in our hire range, proving increasingly popular.

  • Synthetic Fur Vegan Slanj Lion Sporran - We offer several vegan sporran options at Slanj from furry dress sporrans to basic day sporrans. This particular sporran is made of synthetic fur and imitation leather with a Slanj Lion cantle from our Slanj Lion Sporran Range.

  • Navy Blue Embroidered Jacket - This jacket and waistcoat designed by Glasgow-based Anjali Modha has beautifully intricate embroidery on the buttons and lapel giving the outfit an Asian-Scottish fusion feel.

  • Slanj Lion Pewter Kilt Pin - Cast Pewter Kilt Pin With The Iconic Slanj Lion Rampant Logo in keeping with the lion theme throughout the outfit.

  • Slanj Lion Sgian Brew - More people are opting for a bottle opener instead of the traditional knife. At some events, sharp objects are not permitted and often a bottle opener is more handy than a knife anyway.

  • Spirit of Glasgow Tartan Tie - A high quality neck tie in the Spirit of Glasgow tartan.

  • Spirit of Glasgow Flashes and Pocket Square - In a well coordinated outfit it helps to have the tie and flashes matching. A matching pocket square is an extra touch of class.

Everyone was delighted with the matching outfits and agreed they were perfect for the occasion and an excellent representation of the couple’s dual heritage.
